A series of images taken by Dave Collerton using a Fujifilm x-T1. The majority of these images are film emulations based on a Classic Negative (Fujifilm Superia 100) film simulation. The first thing to say here is that the Fuji x-T1 can only achieve an approximation to Classic Negative. Firstly it does not have some of the functionality necessary to achieve fine control available in later cameras over the simulation modes, for example it doesn't have grain effects and it doesn't allow for modification of the Color Chrome Effect or clarity. Even so, it is possible to get a really nice emulation of Classic Negative especially in the right lighting conditions. Here are my settings for the Fuji x-T1.
Classic Negative Settings for the Fuji x-T1
Based on Provia or Pro Neg Hi
Pro Neg Hi is closer to the saturation of Classic Negative. Provia is closer to the tone. WB uses Custom 1 setting (see below)
DR 400 (reduces exposure by 2 stop, then lifts shadows to reveal highlight details)
C1, +1B, +2R (push blues, push reds) - use a grey card in ambient light to set C1
Compensation +2/3 to +1 (lightens image)
ISO 800 (enables DR function)
Shadows +1 (crush shadows)
Highlights -2 (heavy filmic roll-off)
Sharpness +1 (compensate for 16MP sensor)
Colour -2 (to reduce saturation)
NR 0 (negative NR sharpens and adds noise, positive NR softens)
